Game Grub

When people watch sports, whether it be live or in the friendly confines of their own home, there is, among other things, food. Throughout the course of time, especially in America, there has been a strong relationship between food and sports viewership. Understanding the importance of this connection, I've put together a list of the best possible food choices when watching a particular sport. Now I'm only focusing on the food aspect here, but it should go without saying that a cold beverage is a mandatory part of your meal and/or your game. Never leave a soldier behind.

Anyways, without any further ado here are a few sports accompanied with their recommended meal. Bon Appetit everybody.

BASEBALL: Hot Dog, Bratwurst
Recommended Sides: Watermelon, Baked Beans, Corn, Salad, French Fries

Fire up the grill, throw some brats or dogs on there maybe grill up some onions and let it ride. Ketchup, mustard, relish, sauerkraut, peppers, however you like it just be sure to give the bun a minute or two on the grill to give it a nice toasty taste. I don't think you can wrong with this option as it is a pretty standard food choice for a pretty standard game.

BASKETBALL: Steak
Recommended Sides: Salad, Rice, Steamed Vegetables, Potatoes
The best game to watch and play deserves only the best when it comes to food. A well-seasoned, juicy steak accompanied with a nice salad and rice always does the trick. Maybe add some A1 sauce or Worcestershire sauce depending on the mood but whatever you do, make sure you're cutting that bad boy with CUTCO - the finest kitchen cutlery in the world

FOOTBALL: Hamburgers
Recommened Sides: Salad, Pasta Salad, Chips, Potatoes, Corn, Baked Beans
A succulent burger and some hard-hitting football more often than not gets the job done. To be honest, when watching football there are many options when it comes to food. Some ribs, a pork tenderloin, and even some fish are all suitable options, I just feel an old-fashioned burger tastes best on a Sunday afternoon. Just remember to put a thumb in those patties when preparing them to make sure they get cooked evenly through.

GOLF: Chicken Breasts
Recommended Sides: Salad, Vegetables, Watermelon, Rice, Pasta Salad
A Sunday afternoon watching the final day of a golf tournament and eating some chicken goes about as well as Tiger Woods and his driver. You can season or marinade the chicken a number of ways which always makes chicken interesting. That's the beauty of chicken and golf for that matter, there are a lot of options when it comes to preparing the meal or approaching a certain shot. Thoughts?

HOCKEY: Chilli
Recommended Sides: Cheese and Crackers, Corn Bread, Green Onion, Sour Cream
While watching a game of puck one can get cold just looking at all that ice. So, what better way to even out the temperature with a hot bowl of chilli? Hockey can get a little boring too so it helps to be active when eating and the cracker-chilli or corn bread-chilli combination allows that to happen. If you're not a crackers or corn bread person just sprinkle some cheese, green onions and sour cream and go to work using a standard spoon, that works too.

SOCCER: Salmon, Tilapia
Recommended Sides: Asparagus, Salad, Steamed Vegetables
Soccer is more or less an exotic sport with a sophisticated feel to it. Therefore, to cooperate with the elegance of the game it seems only natural to have a more exquisite meal than normal. To make this happen I think eating a lightly-seasoned fish filet with some vegetables is the perfect combination. Whether you barbecue the fish or cook it in the oven, it is a healthy choice and one that will keep you distracted if the game begins to lull you to sleep.

Hopefully you will incorporate some of these recommended meals into your sports viewership. After all, a good game on the TV and some quality grub is the best 1-2 punch since Kobe and Shaq.

I'm taking off, you take it easy.
