Hard Knock Phins

New QB Ryan Tannehill and wife
HBO's Hard Knocks announced Tuesday that it will be covering the Miami Dolphins for their 2012 season of the program. For those of you who have never seen Hard Knocks it is basically a behind-the-scenes, in-depth look at a specific NFL team during the pre-season. In this year's case, the Dolphins will be the featured team.

You know, Berg is a big 'phins fan or phan however you want to look at it, and he tells me it should be pretty interesting. Initially, I didn't doubt it because the previous episodes that I have seen were very entertaining. But after some more thought I don't know how the Dolphins and HBO are going to pull this off, or at least contest with previous seasons.

Even though HBO does a great job with this program, I think all signs are pointing to a down year much like the 'phins upcoming season.

Here's why.

The Dolphins are an insignificant team in the NFL and in Miami, behind the Heat and new-look Marlins. Ever since Dan Marino retired it seems like they have a new quarterback every year. They have celebrity owners but no real celebrity or star players. They traded away their best wide receiver in Brandon Marshall. And this past off-season, they essentially gave up on trying to acquire QB Peyton Manning, a position they desperately need. Let's just be honest, the 'phins are a below average organization with little to no entertainment value.

New Head Coach Joe Philbin
However, I think Joe Philbin will be a compelling figure especially being the new head coach and having recently lost his son who tragically drowned in a Wisconsin lake this past season. It will be interesting to see how he goes about leading this team after bearing an incomprehensible amount of pain. I also think Tannehill's wife might attract some viewers but then again, Tannehill's game might lose some. I hate to bag on the Berg's unit like this but I have a hard time believing the Dolphins are worth watching on Hard Knocks or on the field.

The only good thing for the Dolphins and their fans is the organization does have a history of exceeding expectations. To their credit they are the only organization in the NFL to have an undefeated season. Plus, they sport some of the best uniforms in the league with a cheeky logo.

Anyways, I hope the show and NFL season are successful for both HBO and the Miami Dolphins, but it's not looking too hot in Miami.

Hard Knock Phins

I'm taking off, you take it easy.
